A WINNING partnership has been formed that will see Geelong-brewed Furphy become the official beer partner of the Geelong Racing Club.

Local racegoers have a new go-to thirst quencher just in time for the summer racing season, which kicks off with the traditional Boxing Day meeting this year.

Racing club patrons can claim a free, ice-cold can of Furphy Crisp Lager at bars across the course on race days as part of the brand’s Summer of Racing campaign, which celebrates the new deal.

Furphy has also hinted at other mouth-watering deals for thirsty punters that will take the homegrown beer from production at South Geelong’s Little Creatures brewery to the Geelong racecourse.

Fans can scan QR codes in their local paper and at the course to access the offers.

Little Creatures Geelong head brewer Warren Pawsey said the local beer was proud to team up with the GRC as part of the new agreement.

“This is all about bringing two Geelong icons together,” he said.

“We are so excited to see racegoers enjoying Furphy Refreshing Ale and Crisp Lager at the track over summer, and we hope all of Geelong really gets behind our Summer of Racing campaign.”

Geelong Racing Club chief executive officer Luke Rayner also welcomed the new deal, which he said united two like-minded Geelong institutions.

“We love the romance of joining forces with Furphy, coming together and exploring the opportunities it will create for the Geelong Racing Club,” he said.

Lion on-premise customer director Matt Windsor said the parent company was proud of the new partnership.

“The Geelong Racing Club is a key part of the Geelong community. Their many race days and events are all about bringing locals together,” he said.

“We look forward to seeing locals and visitors alike sharing a Furphy while telling one over the summer and years ahead.”

Furphy is a subsidiary of Lion Australia, and is brewed from 100 per cent Australian hops and malt.
