FUSED program reaches out to the Surf Coast

October 18, 2018 BY

AN ANONYMOUS donor has helped support a program that will be rolled out for the Surf Coast’s young people as of next week.

Torquay Community Enterprise received the donation from a local business person to be used on a program for the youth of Surf Coast.

After research and feedback from Surf Coast Youth and Surf Coast Secondary College, TCE matched the donation to fully fund the Reach Foundation’s FUSED program, which will be held over four sessions from Tuesday, October 23.

Reach was founded by Paul Currie and the late Jim Stynes to create programs to inspire young people to believe in themselves and get the most out of life.

To be held for the first time in regional Victoria, FUSED is a four-week after-hours program to help young people aged between 13 and 17 connect, selfdiscover and grow.

Reach describes FUSED as “not your typical ‘youth’ workshop” but “about pushing comfort zones, meeting awesome people and chatting about life – all while having heaps of fun”.

“It’s one of the crew’s favourite workshops to run. They’re passionate about creating a space to talk openly and honestly about what’s going on.”

The program will be run by Reach Crew – young leaders trained to devise creative and exciting programs.

Reach crew members Kelsey and Emmett explained some of the thinking behind FUSED and ran a group activity with Year 9 students at Surf Coast Secondary College last week.

FUSED will be available to anyone aged between 13 and 17 living on the Surf Coast.

TCE has thanked customers of the Torquay Bendigo Bank who help make programs such as this available through their banking activity.
