Gardening for wildlife in Ocean Grove
GARDENS for Wildlife (G4W) is an exciting environmental initiative that is making its way to the Bellarine with the aim to increase habitat and food for our native wildlife.
Bellarine Catchment Network are working with Ocean Grove Coastcare group to deliver this Ocean Grove specific Gardens for Wildlife program.
This program is funded by the City of Greater Geelong and includes the assessment of local resident’s properties for indigenous flora and fauna values.
Following a garden visit, suggestions will be made to increase the wildlife friendliness of the property.
Some ways to enhance the habitat of a garden include using natural mulch for insects, frog-friendly water sources, nectar producing plants to feed birds, clumps of native shrubs to protect birds and planting native flowers to encourage butterfly and bee activity.
If you would like to encourage wildlife into your backyard, free garden visits will be held throughout February, March and April.
To register, please book a time online at environmentbellarine.eventbrite.com.au.
