Gary Ablett Sr to sell collection of memorabilia
The former Cats forward, who spent 14 seasons at Kardinia Park kicking 1,021 goals in front of the Geelong faithful, has teamed up with sports entertainment company owner and friend, Vincent Handley of Entertainment by Vin, to sell off some of his prized goods from his playing days.
Mr Handley will post items to his business’ social media accounts with those interested able to enquire through his platforms over the next month and a half.
“I’ve never really been one to put up photos and trophies, and so most of those things remained at my parents’ place until their passing and then have been in storage ever since,” Ablett said in a video statement.
“So, Vincent asked me would I be interested in selling some of those items and so I’ve agreed to put up some of those items for sale, hopefully people will get a lot of enjoyment out of having those items rather than them just sitting in storage.
“If there’s anyone out there who might like to purchase some of those items, I hope you get a lot of enjoyment out of it.”
Handley said Ablett’s catalogue of items up for sale include, match worn guernseys, boots, shorts, warm up jackets, accumulated memorabilia, and merchandise, signed prints, and unseen photos.
“Gary is not obligated to nor is he in a position where he must sell any of these goods but has chosen to do so freely so that his loyal and longstanding fans can experience these incredible items and own a piece of AFL history.
“Gary is excited by the prospect of moving along some of his treasured items to those who are wanting to buy privately or at one of our online auctions.”
Ablett Sr is currently sixth on the VFL/AFL goalkicking list with 1031 career goals, also winning four Coleman medals and a Norm Smith medal over his career as a footballer.
