Gas leak contained near Point Lonsdale lighthouse
FIREFIGHTERS were called to a suspected gas leak at the Point Lonsdale Lighthouse Reserve on Saturday afternoon.
Four CFA trucks from Queenscliff and Ocean Grove attended the incident on Point Lonsdale Road at 2pm.
A CFA media spokesperson said it appeared a gas main had been ruptured and that the incident was called under control shortly after 3pm.
“It appears a gas main was ruptured,” the spokesperson said.
“Victoria Police and a gas company were in attendance, and local council and Parks Victoria were notified.”
Victoria Police attended the leak for traffic control as the gas company had to dig up parts of the road/footpath to fix the problem.
“The leak was contained by the gas company,” The spokesperson said said.
The leak has been cited as the cause of dead vegetation in the area.
