THE Geelong Arts Centre is on the hunt for two new Associate Artists who need the time, space and resources to bring a new idea to life.

As part of the program, the artists would receive more than $40,000 in cash to support their work, with fees to cover travel and project expenses, along with up to a $15,000 value in-kind studio access and support and mentorship.

Designed for established professional working artists with experience developing work, artists in any live performance medium are encouraged to apply.

Last year’s inaugural Associate Artists were choreographer Joel Bray and playwright Dan Giovannoni, who both praised the program.

“My time as Associate Artist at Geelong Arts Centre has allowed me to dedicate space within my busy freelance writing schedule to focus entirely on developing my new project during its most critical early stages,” Mr Giovannoni said.

Through the program, artists will have the time to focus on their practice, contribute to the Creative Engine program and deliver workshops, providing guidance to local emerging artists.

The initiative supports the Geelong Art Centre’s commitment to supporting talent from emerging to professional.

“The Associate Artist program has shown how Geelong Arts Centre support of two Victorian artists has transformed their practice – resulting in bold new work for our audiences and out local community,” Geelong Arts Centre chief executive officer and creative director Rhys Holden said.

“We’re thrilled to back a new cohort of Associate Artists for 2025 and see their inspired ideas come to life right here in Geelong.”

The Associate Artists Program is part of the art centre’s Creative Engine, designed to support creatives in professional development and artistic intensives.

Applications are open now and will close on Friday, June 13.
