GIVE Where You Live Foundation (GWYLF) is hoping locals can dig deep this month to help support those experiencing hardship during its 2024 Give Geelong Appeal.

The week-long campaign will begin on Friday, March 15 and encourage the community to raise funds for those experiencing homelessness, struggling to put food on the table and facing long-term unemployment.

This year, there are multiple ways the community can help vulnerable members of the Greater Geelong region.

On March 15, GWYLF is asking businesses to kick goals for the community and fundraise by wearing their footy colours to school, work or at their sports club.

The following week on March 21, award-winning presenter and comedian Em Rusciano will headline the Give Geelong Breakfast in the President’s Room at GMHBA Stadium.

All proceeds from the event will directly support the cause.

Locals can also fundraise any time for GWYLF by making a donation to the Give Geelong Appeal website.

GWYLF chief executive officer Bill Mithen said the foundation was looking forward to seeing the community get behind those experiencing hardship.

“We’re working hard to create a fairer, more equitable Geelong, where all people and places thrive, and we can only do that with the support of our community.

“The need in our community continues to increase, and so too, the levels of inequity.

“While the wider Geelong region continues to report low levels of unemployment, there are some suburbs who continue to experience unemployment rates as high as 20%.

“Supporting the Give Geelong Appeal will help us to create the change needed to support those that need it most.”
