THE APCO Foundation Geelong Wine Walk will be back in 2021, with February 13 officially locked in as the date.

APCO ambassador Shane Crawford announced the news last week, following a tour of seven of the Geelong waterfront venues that will host the walk.

Participating venues include The Sky Wheel, The Geelong Yacht Club, Fisherman’s Pier, The Hygiea, The Wharf Shed, Sailor’s Rest and Geelong Boat House.

APCO Foundation chair Sharon Gleeson said the board had carefully deliberated about whether to proceed with the event, and was confident that it could deliver a safe and enjoyable event while adhering to strict COVID-19 protocols.

“The Geelong Wine Walk is not only a fantastic day out, it will also enable the Foundation to raise some much-needed funds and will allow us to continue to support those in our community who need it most.

“All funds raised from this year’s event went to bushfire relief, and we expect that funds raised next year will assist those who continue to struggle with the effects of COVID-19.

“The Geelong Wine Walk is such a popular event and given that there has been a real lack of this type of outing we expect tickets to sell out quicker than event.

“We are looking forward to once again showcasing some of Geelong’s incredible waterfront venues as well as a range of fantastic wineries, distilleries and breweries.”

Brown Magpie’s Mick Clayden poured plenty of glasses throughout the day during the 2020 event.

Nadine Kuc from BAIE Wines, which will be participating in the event for the fifth straight year, said the announcement was welcome news after a long year and presented a great way to kick off 2021.

“It’s a really exciting opportunity to come together and celebrate the region that we live in, and even more importantly, to support such an amazingly charitable organisation.

“Each year the event feels like it has gained more traction and support from local, metro and event interstate participants, and it’s just wonderful to see how truly excited attendees are about exploring the great wine we have available in the region.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to introduce people to our wine and new vintages they might not have had the opportunity to try, as well as connecting with our own BAIE Wines community as well.”

Tickets are now on sale online at geelongwinewalk2021.eventbrite.com.au for the APCO Foundation Geelong Wine Walk, which will be held on February 13, 2021 from 11am-5pm.
