MORE than 200 men turned out to talk, laugh, eat, and raise more than $100,000 for men’s health at the annual Gentlemen of Geelong luncheon.

Last Friday’s event at Flying Brick Cider House marked the 18th time the “biggest and hairiest” lunch had been held in Geelong to help stop male suicide and support men’s mental wellbeing.

Attendees listened to AFL legend Nathan Buckley, radio personality and event MC Ian Cover, and Geelong Cats chief operating officer Simon Kelligher.

The three gentlemen traded sporting stories and also dug deep into mental health and wellbeing themes.

The event also featured a display of the latest Rex Gorell Group Sports Cars, including the Ford Mustang S650, Ford F-150 Lariat, Ford Mach-E GT and Ford Mustang GT Fastback.

Event organiser, David Sharp said the event was one of the better ones in recent memory.

“It was a huge success and an event we were very proud of.

“To raise over $100,000 was a great effort, and kudos to all those who turned out to support it.

“Bucks (Nathan Buckley) was terrific and one of the best speakers we’ve ever had.

“He was just brilliant and kindly chose to donate his speaking fees to the Salvation Army for homeless men, which was another big boost to the day.”

A total of 200 men attended the luncheon.

Mr Sharp said the $100,000 in proceeds will be spread out between a series of charities, including Barwon Health.

“$50,000 of the proceeds were donated directly to Barwon Health for a new emergency service machine,” he said.

“We were lucky enough to have Richard, one of the doctors down at Barwon Health accept the cheque on behalf of the organisation.

“They were thrilled.

“A suite of other men’s charities will also benefit from the day including the Rural Prostate Centre, Lifeline, RUOK and many more.”

Mr Sharp said preparations were already underway for 2024, with the goal of returning “even bigger and stronger”.
