Get your shoes on for 10th Bellarine Sunset Run
NEXT year, the Flying Brick Bellarine Sunset Run will celebrate the 10th anniversary of its coastal trail event between Portarlington and St Leonards.
Since 2016, this locally created and organised event has hosted an average of more than 1,100 running and walking enthusiasts each year to enjoy a summer’s Saturday evening on the Bellarine Peninsula.
Many families and friends will again spend a weekend running, eating, drinking, smiling, and laughing with friends and loved ones in 2025.
The feature events will again be the ProFeet Half Marathon, Steigen 10km and the Bully Buster 4km, with all events to start close to 5pm.
“We are excited to be planning for our 10th straight event,” Bellarine Sunset Run organiser Dion Milne said.
“Given what has happened over the last half of the decade we along with our participants have navigated the challenges together, there are several enthusiasts lining up for their 10th straight.
“Some of the children who will run or walk the Bully Buster 4km weren’t even born when this event started, and that’s surreal.”
Organisers have stuck with the event’s traditional distances as they are family-friendly, with something for everyone whether they are a seasoned runner, a newbie, or a participant who just likes to get out and walk or jog at their own pace.
After its first nine years, the Bellarine Sunset Run is seeing the rewards of promoting physical activity to families and children, with some starting in the 4km event when it was added in 2017 now progressing through to the longer distances.
“We’ve seen kids grow up before our eyes, as have the participants; they’ve seen our girls grow up too,” Mr Milne said.
“Every February is like a family reunion of sorts.”
The event prides itself on its family-first approach and summer community vibes, with the highlight for runners being the Bellarine Foreshore Coastal trail, where they are supported by not only the local Bellarine community but also hundreds of holiday makers with cheers of encouragement.
Organisers thanked Flying Brick Cider Co, who will return as naming rights sponsor for the 10th time, as well as all other sponsors, and are inviting other community-focused sponsors to take part.
