Golfers can still tee up but with restrictions
GOLFERS can still play at Greater Geelong’s three council-managed courses but strict conditions regarding attendance and social distancing will need to be met.
Golf is among the outdoor sporting activities that are allowed to continue, under the Stage 3 “Stay at Home” restrictions that came into effect in regional Victoria from August 6.
Sport and Recreation portfolio chair Cr Ron Nelson said Stage 3 restrictions allowed a number of outdoor activities, such as golf, hiking, bike riding, surfing or yoga in the park.
“This recognises the physical and mental health benefits that recreation and exercise can bring.
“But it is vital that people comply with the directions on how to safely take part in these activities.
“Wearing a mask and keeping at least 1.5 metres away from others is essential to help keep you, your family and the wider community safe.”
The COVID-19 restrictions place limits on the number of people who can attend and the distance they must maintain from each other.
Players wishing to attend the city-managed courses at Balyang Par 3, Lara and Queens Park are advised:
- A person can only play golf with one other person or members of their own household
- Advance bookings are essential
- A photo licence or other valid proof of identity is required to enter
- People playing together must keep at least 1.5 metres away from each other and maintain a distance of 100 metres from other groups
- Equipment must not be shared and is not available for rent, and
- Golf carts are available only to those aged over 65 or those living with a disability.
In line with the statewide requirement, all visitors are required to wear a face covering at all times.
Residents from metropolitan Melbourne are not permitted to visit Greater Geelong to play golf.
Members are reminded that their membership rights relate to a specific course and they are not reciprocal across the city’s network.
