THE Ocean Grove Evening VIEW Club is calling on locals to tee off for a cause at a fundraiser for The Smith Family on 1 March.

Program officer Alison Davis said the club’s Golf and Goofing Day, to be held at the Ocean Grove Bowls Club, was inspired by the club’s members and their mix of interests.

“There are a lot of people connected to the women in our club – their husbands, partners, their friends – who are involved in golfing,” she said.

“Equally, we have a whole lot of people that are not remotely interested in playing golf… which inspired the goofing aspect of the day.”

Alongside the nine-hole golf event, participants can take part in nine novelty, or ‘goof’, activities including croquet and tenpin bowling, with prizes on offer for both competitions.

There is also an option for less confident golfers.

“If you feel like you’re not a very good golfer you can pay $5 for a mulligan – a free shot – so if you think you’re going to stuff up a hole you can pay to get out of your problem,” Davis said.

“After the game, there’ll be competitions, raffles and auctions, and music and dancing.”

The Ocean Grove Evening VIEW Club is one of 300 VIEW clubs across Australia, which form the authorised fundraising arm of The Smith Family.

“Our club is committed to supporting VIEW’s interest in the education of women,” Davis said.

“None of our funds are kept for ourselves. They’re all donated directly to The Smith Family.”

Of the club’s 131 members, she said many share an interest in education.

“We’re absolutely focused on those kids that miss out on the benefits of getting access to a full education,” Davis said.

Davis encouraged golfers and “goofers” alike to join the day for fundraising and fun.

Bookings are open for teams of three golfers or two goofers by phoning 0403 721 754.
