Grain forum coming to Derrinallum

June 20, 2018 BY

The two focus topics of the grain forum will be nutrition and nitrogen fertiliser.

LOCAL grain growers are being reminded of an upcoming opportunity to discuss and have input into their industry’s research, development and extension (RD&E) investments.

A Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) Local Forum will be held at Derrinallum on July 3, enabling growers and other grains industry stakeholders to contribute to shaping future RD&E for the important issues which affect the profitability of growers.

The GRDC’s staff, Southern Regional Panel and Regional Cropping Solutions Network (RCSN) are hosting the interactive forum which Southern RCSN co-ordinator Jen Lillecrapp says is another way for the GRDC staff, RCSN and Panel members to listen to growers and discuss relevant RD&E investments, activities and opportunities.

“The Local Forum at Derrinallum – one of six being held in Victoria and South Australia – will provide local growers and industry stakeholders with the opportunity to have their say on the important constraints and profit-growth opportunities, and to learn about, discuss and shape future RD&E,” Mrs Lillecrapp says.

The two focus topics of the forum will be nutrition to fill the yield gap in the high rainfall zone and mid-row banding of nitrogen fertiliser.

Leading the discussion on these topics respectively will be Agriculture Victoria researchers Penny Riffkin and Ash Wallace.

Growers and other industry personnel are encouraged to register their attendance for the forum which will be at the Derrinallum Community Hall from 9am to 12.30pm, followed by lunch.
