Grant funding up for grabs across the region

November 1, 2018 BY

LOCAL organisations, councils and community groups across the Geelong region have one more month to apply for a share in $200 million of grant funding through the Building Better Regions Fund.

Initiated by the Australian Government, the $641.6 million Building Better Regions Fund has been set up to create jobs, drive economic growth and build stronger regional communities.

There are two streams of funding available – the Community Investments stream which funds community activities, new local events and regional strategic plans; and the Infrastructure Projects stream to supports the construction of new infrastructure, or the upgrade or extension of existing infrastructure that provide economic and social benefits.

Each stream funds projects and initiatives from $5,000 up to $10 million.

Regional Development Australia (RDA) Barwon South West chair Bruce Anson said the fund would get projects off the ground and help the region achieve fantastic economic outcomes.

“More than $11.1 million has already been allocated to infrastructure and community projects through Rounds One and Two, which is a big win for our region.”

These projects included $245,500 towards the upgrade of community hall in Birregurra, $5,000,000 towards three new multi-purpose indoor sports courts at Surf Coast Secondary College and $360,500 towards a warm season turf pitch at Banyul Warri Fields in Torquay.

“Now that Round Three funding has opened, we’re calling on not-for-profit organisations and agencies to apply for a grant to channel more investment in our local economy.”

He said Round Three had a big focus on tourism with $45 million earmarked for infrastructure projects that will help stimulate local economies.

The closing date for applications is November 15. For more information on eligibility and how to apply, head to infrastructure.gov.au/bbrf.
