Grants open for Children’s Week events
THE City of Greater Geelong have opened grant applications for groups and organisations running events during Children’s Week.
Grants of up to $750 are up for grabs with a total grant pool of $15,000 available.
Children’s week takes place each year between October 19 and 27, celebrating kids, their talents, achievements and rights to enjoy childhood.
Applications are open for not-for-profit groups and registered charities, schools and early years services can also apply however are subject to conditions.
Events can include a wide range of activities from dance and music through to cooking classes and road safety sessions.
Geelong mayor Trent Sullivan is encouraging the community to get creative.
“We’re looking to support activities that maximise the involvement of children and families, that are well planned, and inclusive to everyone,” he said.
“This is an important way for the council to support and celebrate local children, and we look forward to seeing terrific applications.”
‘Our Place’ was a recipient of the grant last year, allowing them to host a free yoga play session for parents, carers and their children.
Cr Sarah Hathway, chair of the council’s Inclusions and Care Portfolio, said applications for events that are free and open to the public will be prioritised.
“It’s always a wonderful week and we hope to see as many groups getting involved as possible,” she said.
Funds can help organisers with the cost of delivering the event including audio and visual equipment, venue hire, catering and more.
All activities must be held within the City of Greater Geelong and during Children’s Week.
Applications will close on June 24 and successful applicants will be notified on August 12.
