APPLICATIONS are now open for a Victorian government program offering $1.4 million in grants to improve access and safety along the state’s coastline.
The Coastal Public Access and Risk Grants Program provides up to $150,000 for coastal Crown land managers, including local governments and volunteer committees, to identify and manage coastal risks.
Minister for Environment Steve Dimopoulos said the funding aimed to ensure safe public access to beaches while supporting the long-term protection of coastal environments.
“It is important that Victorians can continue to safely access and enjoy our beautiful coasts, and we appreciate the work coastal Crown land managers undertake across the state to ensure this,” he said.
Previous grant recipients have used the funding for projects such as installing handrails on beach access steps, replacing damaged stairs, stabilising access paths, and conducting erosion and coastal stability assessments.
The program complements a recent $15 million state government investment to address coastal erosion and safety risks across Victoria.
That broader package includes dune protection, sand renourishment, and repairs to infrastructure including walking trails, access ramps, seawalls and piers.
Applications for the Coastal Public Access and Risk Grants close on April 30.
