Group to talk green ideas at year’s first event

ENVIRONMENTAL group Geelong Sustainability will take a closer look at regenerative farming in its first Green Drinks for the year, to be held later this month.

The series of community information events focused on climate change and environmental education, including keynote guest speakers and climate-focused activities.

Geelong Sustainability have developed “Regeneration: Exploring a regenerative farming and food system” in partnership with Common Ground Project in Freshwater Creek as part of the 2023 Sustainable Living Festival.

Common Ground Project is a regenerative farm in Freshwater Creek, and oganisers describe the free farm tour and associated discussions as “a beautiful night of networking, inspiring conversations and topics, drinks and live music”.

“Our lands, soils and food systems are in crisis, and building regenerative farming and food ecosystems at many different scales is more important than ever”.

While wandering through beds of beetroots and greens at the Common Ground Project, the interactive tour will discuss:

What regenerative farming is, and how it can be practiced on a small-scale farm

Understanding the link between soil health and human health

Bringing the community back into farming and food systems, and

How you can get involved in your home and community.

There will also be a chance to connect with like-minded people and hear what the year has in store for Geelong Sustainability.

A social enterprise, the Common Ground Project promotes food security by creating fair access to locally grown, healthy food.

The facility provides hands-on workshops, training and employment pathways through its Food Knowledge programs, which directly support its food relief efforts in the Geelong region.

The Green Drinks will be heldat Common Ground Project, 675 Anglesea Road, Freshwater Creek, on February 28 from 5.30-7pm.
