A LIONS Club member is grateful for the support of businesses who announced their support to help sponsor local children attend an upcoming camp.

Ocean Grove businesses Driftwood Café, Napona, Kyosk, The Olive Pit, White Hart Coffee Bar and Piping Hot Chicken will fundraise for the Lions Club of Ocean Grove Barwon Heads throughout the year by asking their customers to donate where they can.

“It’s really, really important that the community continues to be a part of this camp and places an interest in it, because we can’t do it on our own,” Lions Club member John Claringbold said.

“It’s very encouraging to see so many businesses becoming sponsors this early.”

Each supporting business has a yellow plastic lion which people can donate money to, which will go towards local Ocean Grove students attending the Lions Licola Wilderness Village Camp in January next year.

Child sponsorship to the camp costs $500 and Mr Claringbold said he hoped to raise $7,500 to send 15 Ocean Grove children to next year’s camp.

“The camp continues to be a valuable resource for kids, it allows them a chance to thrive away from home and try new things and overcome any fears,” Mr Claringbold said.

The Barwon Heads Hotel, Barwon Heads Pharmacy and Bellarine Property, have also contributed to local sponsorships over the past two years, contributing more than $2,000.
