Guild grows great grass

December 5, 2018 BY

The 2018 Jan Juc Grass Growers Guild participants.

THE best grass on the Surf Coast was on show over the weekend at the judging of the annual Jan Juc Grass Growers Guild competition.

Ten lawns were judged throughout Sunday to come up with the eventual winners.

Beautiful spring rains and well timed organic fertilising was the perfect combination for outstanding entries.

Jamie “Chooka” Woods – also known as Dr Turf – mentored the group through the process and awarded the first “Green Jacket Award” for best lawn commitment and follow through. This award was bestowed upon Nichol Wylie with a near perfect execution of coastal kikuyu.

All entrants judged each lawn with results ratified by head judge Dr Turf.

Clif Daniel won the dreaded NAGGA award for worst lawn, but said he was proud of the fact he had spent three months outback caravan touring Western Australia with his family and still managed to make it back in time for an entry. JJGGG participants were also proud to have raised $800 for Torquay Community House.

Preparations are already under way for next year.
