Gut health the hot topic of second free seminar

July 18, 2018 BY

THE second of a series of three free Health and Wellbeing seminars in Ocean Grove later this month is a must for those looking to improve their health and longevity.

Chiropractor and Functional Health Practitioner Dr Heidi Mueller will discuss the importance of a healthy digestive system for a wide range of health issues on July 31.

Dr Mueller will cover some of the signs and symptoms of an unhappy gut and options for treatment.

“There are trillions of bacteria in our gut that help us digest food, absorb vital nutrients, regulate our mood and immune systems as well as decreasing inflammation, these bacteria are known as your gut microbiome.

“A poor diet, certain medications, stress and illness can disrupt this healthy balance of bacteria, leading to digestive problems.

“Clients often believe that they just have to live with a gut that doesn’t work well, but emerging scientific research now points to the importance of a diverse gut microbiome and its link to improvements in health.

“It is important that the community is kept up to date with new options for treatment so they don’t suffer unnecessarily.”

Dr Mueller will be exploring what is “normal” when it comes to our gut health, and offer natural, gut friendly choices for improved gut function, decreased pain and inflammation.

This month, personal trainer Penny Tomkinson from Step into Life Ocean Grove will also highlight the significant benefits of muscle strengthening for all ages and exercises that the majority of the population should do.

“Muscle strengthening is now believed to be the most important type of exercise to assist in longevity with minimum sessions of two days per week recommended,” Ms Tomkinson said.

“Australia’s physical activity guidelines advise that adults between 18-64 years aim for 2.5-5 hours of moderate intensity physical activity per week or 1.25-2.5 hours of vigorous exercise or a combination of both.”

Yoga guru Rebecca Abram from Be Centred Yoga will explore how yoga is for everyone, regardless of age and ability.

Don’t miss this opportunity to meet the speakers and ask questions in a relaxed atmosphere.

The free event will be held at Ocean Grove Community Centre, (The Hub) 1 John Dory Drive, Ocean Grove on July 31 from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.
