WHAT a night it was, Saturday October 20 at Newcomb Tennis Club, with current members and office-bearers rubbing shoulders and sharing memories at the club’s 50th birthday bash with so many “blasts from the past!”

Close to 120 attendees were at the gala evening, with many an old friendship rekindled, stories told and doubtlessly embellished, but who was to care? This was certainly a very special occasion!

Club president Peter Kos welcomed guests and spoke passionately about the club, its halcyon days and the challenges going forward, before keynote speaker (and life member) Brett Robinson reflected on what the club meant to him and to so many of his contemporaries, over the years.

What an enjoyable stroll down memory lane this night turned out to be and an atmosphere rarely seen, with guests inspecting those old (and new) premiership photos and memorabilia and having a quiet – and sometimes loud – giggle too!

A most significant highlight of the party was the induction into life membership of club secretary Allan Fairchild, a phenomenal servant and passionate worker for the club’s welfare. Congratulations!

It wasn’t an early night either – the bar did brisk business and all that fabulous food was demolished by the hungry masses. Nobody really wanted to go home. Understandable!

Newcomb Tennis Club is looking forward with much optimism to the future of the club and is always very welcoming to new members for social or competition play. Interested people should give that new life member/secretary Allan a call on 0409 252 650 – you will definitely be glad you did!
