GEELONG Venom have announced another injury replacement signing, with experienced forward Ashley Harris set to join the WNBL team immediately.

The announcement comes on the eve of the Venom’s clash today (Friday, December 5) with Bendigo, with the club confirming Harris will suit up in the match.

At 188cm, the versatile and respected forward brings more than a decade of professional basketball experience, having played across Europe, the US and Australia.

She played at college level in America for Iowa State University and Wayne State College, where she was inducted into the Hall of Fame for her exceptional impact on the program.

Geelong head coach Chris Lucas said Harris’ arrival came at a crucial time, with his side sitting at a 3-6 record.

“Ash is a proven professional who competes hard and brings real presence to the floor. Her experience and physicality will be important for us as we manage injuries.

“She understands what it takes to perform at a high level, and we’re confident she’ll make a strong contribution on and off the court, starting tonight.”

Harris said she was excited to join the Venom and was willing to contribute wherever needed.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to step in and support this team.

“Geelong has a passionate basketball community and a strong culture.

“I’m looking forward to getting to work, pulling on the Venom jersey tonight, and helping the team in any way I can.”

The Venom’s clash with the Spirit will tip off at 5.30pm at Sellkirk Stadium in Ballarat. The team will then face the UC Capitals this Sunday, December 7 at the Geelong Arena.
