Have your say on clever and creative plan for Geelong
THE City of Greater Geelong is seeking community support for the evolution of the municipality into a clever and creative city-region over the next 30 years. More than 16,000 people contributed to the community-led vision to be recognised regionally, nationally and internationally through the A Clever and Creative Future project.
This feedback was used to produce the Vision Baselines report, which contains 37 key indicators and measures grouped into nine groups of “community aspirations” (in no particular order):
- A prosperous economy that supports jobs and education opportunities
- A leader in developing and adopting technology
- Creativity drives culture
- A fast, reliable and connected transport network
- A destination that attracts local and international visitors
- People feel safe wherever they are
- An inclusive, diverse, healthy and socially connected community
- Sustainable development that supports population growth and protects the natural environment, and
- Development and implementation of sustainable solutions.
However, the report notes that three of the indicators (arts and culture participation, citizen engagement, and social support) are “no longer available and an alternative source or indicator will be determined”.
The community can get involved with the clever and creative initiatives promoted on the city’s website, in newsletters and on social media. “We’re encouraging the people of Greater Geelong to help drive our region’s clever and creative transformation by telling us how they’re contributing to our community-led vision,” City of Greater Geelong mayor Bruce Harwood said.
“In sharing ideas and actions – no matter how big or small – you’ll be encouraging others to become involved as we work together to make the vision a reality. “It’s a great way for the community to demonstrate its continued commitment to Greater Geelong’s bright future.”
