Henderson announces listening tour

December 5, 2018 BY

THE fallout from the Victorian state election continues, with Corangamite Liberal federal member Sarah Henderson announcing she will be holding a listening tour across her electorate to hear local concerns.

The next federal election must be held no later than May, and the huge swing to Labor in Victoria has made many federal Liberal MPs worried about the implications of a similar swing not just in this state but across Australia.

Corangamite is a seat particularly at risk for the Liberals, as the recent redistribution of electoral boundaries has cut the estimated two-party preferred margin to just 0.03 percent, making it the Liberals’ most marginal seat.

In a statement issued last week soon after the Victorian election, Ms Henderson said the election was “fought predominantly on state issues” (a position taken by many federal Liberal MPs) but that “voters continue to send us a clear message – focus on our issues and concerns, not yourselves”.

“I will be re-doubling my efforts to reach out to every local community, listen to concerns and take appropriate action wherever possible.

“In the coming weeks and months, I will be conducting a ‘Community First” listening tour across all parts of the Corangamite electorate’.

“Across such a large regional electorate, I have always taken the approach that every community matters.”

The schedule of dates has not yet been announced.
