History awards – Queenscliff fishermen
A QUEENSCLIFF project is among 39 works in the running for a Victorian Community History Award. Plaques have been created for the houses of the unique Fisherman’s Flat, a Queenscliff heritage asset. They document the history of the dwellings and families who lived in them, providing an accessible window to local history.
They are backed by further documentation available at the Queenscliffe Historical Museum.
There are 72 allotments with dwellings identifiable today.

The project is by The Fisherman’s Flat Fishermen and Families Study Group in association with the Queenscliffe Historical Museum.
It is one of three shortlisted entries for the local history project award, which has a $2,000 prize.
The 11 category winners, including for the overall Victorian Premier’s History Award, will be revealed at the Langham Hotel in Melbourne on March 24.

The awards are presented by Public Record Office Victoria in partnership with the Royal Historical Society of Victoria and supported by the state government.
The annual awards celebrate the people involved in community history projects who are dedicated to telling local stories which help all Victorians better understand their past.
