Walk for Johno, to be held later this month, will help raise funds for The Heart Foundation. Pictured are some people who took part in last year’s event.

A FUNDRAISING walk along the Bellarine Rail Trail this month will celebrate the life and memory of John “Johno” Spencer, who passed away suddenly from a heart attack in 2015.

Walk for Johno, to be held on March 24, will help raise funds for The Heart Foundation.

The walk will take place along the picturesque Bellarine Railway Trail – from Queenscliff to Eastern Gardens in Geelong.

The walk has six different walk options from 37km through to 3km, so there is something for everyone and every fitness level.

The walk will conclude with a picnic barbecue celebration in Eastern Gardens, including presentations, a giant raffle and children’s activities.

The event has been fortunate to be supported by so many of Johno’s family and friends and the wider community, with more than 500 people walking so far and nearly $37,000 being raised for the Heart Foundation by amazing supporters and sponsors, including the Rotary Club of Drysdale, who is this year’s gold sponsor.

Johno suddenly passed away from a heart attack on February 7, 2015, leaving behind his wife of 43 years, three daughters and eight grandchildren, plus lots of family and friends who all loved and adored him.

John had no signs or symptoms so the family were given no warning.

Instead of allowing his death to be an entirely negative event, his family wanted to celebrate his life and memory by creating this fundraising walk helping to raise funds for The Heart Foundation.

They hope that by supporting this Foundation they can help prevent this tragedy from happening to other families.
