Hundreds take up the Kondak Triathlon challenge
MORE than 650 competitors took part in the third annual 13th Beach Health Services “Kondak” Triathlon at the weekend.
Competitors took on the 400-metre swim, 14-kilometre cycle, and 4.4-kilometre run around the picturesque Barwon Heads and Ocean Grove course on Sunday.
Organiser Lincoln Beckworth said that as always they had a terrific number (230) of first-time triathletes, which was what the event was all about – having a go and challenging yourself.
Mr Beckworth said there were some outstanding performances from top local athletes, with Catherine Allison of Barwon Heads winning her division and the fastest overall female time of 50 minutes and 19 seconds, and Adam Conquest, of Torquay, winning the overall male division in a time of 44 minutes, 13 minutes and 30 seconds faster than 2016 winner Kirby Bourke, who came in second in 44 minutes and 44 seconds.
“Once again there was a fantastic atmosphere at the event with large crowds turning out to cheer on family and friends,” he said.
“A big thank you to all of the local sponsors, marshals and event staff for making this great event possible.
“Everyone is already looking forward to the 2019 event!”
