THE owner of IGA Barwon Heads has been inducted into the supermarket chain’s hall of fame.

Jean Cowley was surprised with the award at this year’s IGA National Awards of Excellence ceremony, which took place on the Gold Coast earlier this month.

Named after the chair of IGA Inc, the Dr Thomas S. Haggai IGA Hall of Fame Award has recognised outstanding achievements and contribution to the Australian independent retail grocery industry since 2001.

Ms Cowley has had lengthy stints on the MGA national board and IGA state boards and has helped other independent retailers at all levels.

As a dedicated independent retail network champion, she has provided unwavering and generous support to many individuals, community groups, charities, and her family throughout her career.

“It is such an honour to be inducted into the IGA Hall of Fame,” Ms Cowley said about receiving the honour.

“Throughout my career, I’ve watched so many wonderful people be inducted and to be recognised this year feels surreal.

“My dream has always been to run really good supermarkets that provide great customer service for communities, with quality fresh food and passionate teams, and I am so proud to have delivered this over the years.”

She said the milestone was not only special for her but also rewarding for her family and business partner Andrew Maud.

“I am very grateful for their support over the years, and would also like to thank our local community who support IGA Barwon Heads, this is an amazing achievement for us to all celebrate together.”
