Zone in force to help hoodie twins
TWO Hooded Plover chicks have hatched on 13th Beach between beach access tracks 30W (‘the Hole’) and 31W (‘Cylinders’). Barwon Coast Committee of Management have declared a Temporary Exclusion Zone – no access is permitted along a 200-metre section of beach at the site. “Please give these birds a good chance at survival and avoid the area,” a BCCM spokesperson said. All other 30 beach access sites on the Barwon Coast are available as usual.

Jakara Anthony wins young athlete award
BARWON Heads skiing superstar Jakara Anthony has taken out the Vicsport Victorian Young Athlete of the Year award. More than 500 people attended the Victorian Sport Awards at Marvel Stadium last week, an event which honours those who have made an outstanding contribution to sport in Victoria as individual or team athletes, coaches, administrators and volunteers from both metropolitan and regional areas in Victoria. Anthony took out her award for mogul skiing.

Portarlington Road resealing works
RESEALING works on four sections of Portarlington Road between Newcomb and Curlewis has started. One lane of Portarlington Road will remain open at all times during the works, from 9.30am to 3pm daily. Works on the eastbound lanes will be conducted from Boundary Road to Miller Street in Newcomb, Moolap Station Road to Clifton Avenue in Moolap and from Christies Road to Bawtree Road in Leopold. Westbound resealing will take place from Caledonia Street to Moolap Station Road, Moolap. Works should be completed by the end of this week, weather permitting.
