Inclusive school earns state nod
CLIFTON Springs Primary School has earned recognition for a suite of inclusive education programs aimed at providing all of its students with the opportunity to thrive.
The Bellarine school is a finalist in the 2022 Victorian Education Excellence Awards, which recognises school staff for their outstanding dedication and achievement in their field.
Clifton Springs PS is shortlisted in the Outstanding Inclusive Education category, which focuses on school that have delivered system improvements that make a positive impact in their school and community, especially for students with additional needs.
Among the inclusive initiatives that impressed judges were the school’s Just Right Zone, Sensory Motor Program and Life Skills Program.
“Clifton Springs Primary School is a genuinely student-centred and inclusive school, where the development of student voice and opportunities for student leadership are offered to all students, regardless of ability level or additional need,” the government stated.
“The school’s Wellbeing and Inclusion team supports the embedding of inclusive practices in every classroom, ensuring that students’ cultural identity is honoured, and that students’ self-regulation and engagement is creating a positive climate for learning.
“Multiple evidence-based approaches are utilised by the team, allowing students to maintain focus and positive interactions, and to develop life and leadership skills.”
Clifton Springs PS is in the running for a $25,000 team award in its category for professional learning grants, while the overall winner will also receive the Lindsay Thompson Award and a further $20,000.
Education Minister Natalie Hutchins said the awards recognised Victoria’s most innovative schools.
“There are so many inspirational teachers, principals, business managers, support staff and schools that go above and beyond to improve educational outcomes and support students across the state,” she said.
“These awards are a fantastic way to celebrate their contributions to our education sector – and recognise their invaluable work.”
