Indented Head’s history now on exhibit
INDENTED Head’s rich and diverse history is now on exhibit through a permanent display at the town’s community hall.
The Indented Head Community Association received a Local History Grant worth $3,500 through Public Records Office Victoria and has recently completed an oral and photographic history exhibition called “Rediscovering Indented Head’s History”.
It is now a permanent display in the Indented Head Community Hall.
Association secretary Ingrid Novosel said the display included John Batman and William Buckley meeting at Indented Head in 1835, and the story of the paddle steamer Ozone and its excursions across the bay.
It also features the late Mrs Lynette Chambers’ recollections of the Ozone anchored off the town and how it became a wreck in Half Moon Bay, plus history of the boatsheds and Batman Park, and the formation of the Indented Head Boat Club and Indented Head Yacht Club.
A 1985 A3 poster of the activities on the Bellarine Peninsula celebrates the 150 years of John Batman landing at Indented Head in 1835.
The hall will be open on Sunday, January 14 and January 28 (times not yet set), for the community, campers and visitors to view the exhibition and educate them on Indented Head’s history.
