It’s a sign to get active this winter

June 8, 2023 BY

DEVELOPER Villawood Properties wants to persuade people to shake off the usual winter lethargy and get moving with the latest arrangement of its corten steel letters in Mount Duneed.

The three-metre GET ACTIVE signage next to the Surf Coast Highway in the Armstrong Mt Duneed estate is an initiative with Active Geelong, a collaborative project between leading businesses, doctors, researchers and individuals to address physical activity in the Geelong region.

Villawood executive director and Active Geelong ambassador Rory Costelloe said the benefits of staying active in the cooler months were too important to overlook.

“It might be a bit harder getting going in winter but keeping active, whether it’s indoors or outdoors, can be invigorating, increase your energy levels and even make you happier.

“There are plenty of interesting things to do in winter, too, regardless of the level of activity you want.

“The Geelong region’s three waterways – the Barwon River, Corio Bay and the Surf Coast – offer everything from walking, cycling or jogging in a great environment to surfing, swimming, kayaking.

“You might need to rug up but that’s half the fun.”

GET ACTIVE is the latest arrangement of Villawood’s corten steel letters in Mount Duneed.

The GET ACTIVE message complements Active Geelong’s recent Move More in May campaign, which was intended to remind the community just how important it is to maintain physical activity levels throughout the colder months.

Active Geelong chair Dr Hugh Seward said the organisation had engaged its many ambassadors to showcase the myriad ways they are getting out and about to exercise as the days get shorter and darker.

“We are encouraging people to maintain their physical activity routines year-round and perhaps think of new ways that they can tick this off despite the weather.

“We are proud to have some of Geelong’s industry and community leaders as ambassadors who are modelling active lifestyles and proving that just a little bit of physical activity can make a big difference.”

Active Geelong’s goals include to ensure every resident of the Geelong region increases their daily physical activity level by 2025.
