It’s all cool at art’skool

November 15, 2017 BY

Local artist and art teacher Kaz McGlynn has great memories of enjoying family activities and playing at the beach in her younger years.

Now living in Barwon Heads herself, Kaz, as a child, had a love of colour and drawing, spending most of her time in the school art room, lost in the freedom of creative expression.

Kaz often tells the story of her father giving her 100 copies of her pencil drawings of wide-eyed children for her 12th birthday, which she enterprisingly sold for pocket money.

Now a celebrated Australian artist, Kaz produces paintings, sculptures and ceramics, as well as public art installations, gates, artistic fences and many smaller creative products.

“My artwork is creating a memory that you want to treasure forever,” Kaz said.

Kaz shares her joys and sorrows in a quirky way through her work, leaving a large impact on her audiences.

Her background in industrial design and visual art gives Kaz a unique perspective when creating public art for communities and private commissions, using an incredible range of media.

As an art educator, Kaz has lectured at Deakin University and has taught thousands of students in secondary schools and has continued to do so through founding an award-winning art school run by qualified art educators/artists.

“Quality of life improves when there is a healthy, thriving arts community, like the one we have at The Studio @54 Grubb Rd in Ocean Grove,” she said.

Kaz’s early memories live on through her art’sKool, with many day-time, after-school and weekend art classes, art workshops and festive arty parties; from tiny tots, kids, teens and adults including people with disabilities from NDIS.

Kaz also conducts an annual exhibition of her students’ work which is planned for late November at The Studio @ 54 Grubb Road, Ocean Grove, where students also gain entrepreneurial skills by selling limited editions of their work, as she did as a child.
