Jazz memories sought for online concert

September 24, 2020 BY

Callum Watson is organising the online Jazz Memories concert.

IF YOU have a tale about your favourite jazz tune, the Geelong Seniors Festival wants to hear it.
The festival has been reimagined in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, and seniors across the region have been invited to send in a video about their favourite jazz song.
In next month’s Jazz Memories concert, which will be streamed live online, a jazz ensemble featuring Lucy Head (vocals), Callum Watson (piano), Evan Jones (bass) and Sean Loughran (drums) will share these stories and perform the songs.
“The pandemic has disrupted our lives and exposed society’s weaknesses,” Mr Watson, who is organising Jazz Memories, said.
“With this virtual event I want to remind seniors across the region that they are not forgotten.”
To participate in Jazz Memories, record a short video stating your favourite jazz song and describing why it is significant to you, and then submit it online at callumwatson.com.au/geelongjazz before October 7.
It could be the story of the first song you danced to at your wedding, or a vivid memory of Frank Sinatra’s infamous performance at Festival Hall in 1974.
Alternatively, if you are unable to record a video, send your response including your name via SMS to 0490 112 986 (voice recording preferred).
Jazz Memories will be streamed live on October 18 from 2-3pm and replayed on 94.7 The Pulse on October 25 from 11am-noon.
