THE Holy Trinity Parish Queenscliff is inviting the community to join its walk from Mannerim to Queenscliff later this year as part of the Catholic Church’s Jubilee Year 2025.
The Peace Camino is described as a walk of “remembrance and renewal” along the Bellarine Rail Trail.
The event, on November 9, invites participants of all faiths or none to walk together in unity, remembrance and hope.
Beginning at the Memorial Indigenous Gardens at Mannerim and following the Bellarine Rail Trail to Queenscliff, the journey invites each pilgrim to step away from the noise of daily life and walk a path of peace, prayer and hope.
This Camino turns remembrance into movement: a symbolic act of turning the way to war into the prayerful path to peace and hope.
Though inspired by the Christian tradition of pilgrimage, organisers say the Peace Camino welcomes people of all faiths and goodwill, and also acknowledges the Wadawurrung people and the ground walked by the First Nations people.
“We walk along the Rail Trail which was used historically for wartime purposes, transporting men and supplies to the Queenscliff Fort. We now walk it in unity, with purpose and in hope for peace.”
Participants will meet at the Holy Trinity Parish Church at 34 Stevens Street, Queenscliff at 12 noon and then be transported by chartered bus to the beginning of the walk to the Memorial Indigenous Gardens in Swan Bay Road, Mannerim.
Although not a challenging walk, most of the way is downhill on a solid gravel or bitumen path.
The walk is expected to take between three and four hours, and is not suitable for people with mobility issues.
