A TALENTED group of local junior soccer players are searching for a major sponsor to help get them to an international tournament in Singapore.

A selection of Under 14 female soccer players from Barwon Heads, Ocean Grove and Bannockburn have been officially invited to form a team and compete in the Singa Cup.

The eight-day tournament will be a showcase of the next generation of elite footballers, delivering young players a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to represent their region on the international stage.

The team is seeking a major sponsor for support with tournament expenses.

The players are looking forward to representing the region on the international stage.

Sponsorship will allow every girl to have the chance to play regardless of financial barriers.

Under 14 team coach Mark Smith said supporting the girls was about more than just soccer.

“This is a chance to show our girls what is possible if they commit to sport, work as a team and focus on a goal.

“Girls that remain in sport are more likely to become leaders, have enhanced self-esteem, better physical and mental health and greater confidence. This is what we want for our girls!

“We’ve got the girls, now we need help to get them there!”

Barwon Heads co-captain Quinn Taylor said she couldn’t wait to participate in the tournament.

“This will be an unforgettable experience, playing against other soccer teams from around the world.

“I am really looking forward to it, and improving as a player.”
