FAMILIES from across the region gathered at Kardinia Park on Sunday for the second Festival of Sport.

The free celebration saw people participate in the more than 60 plus ‘come and try’ experiences offered across the precinct.

The inaugural event in 2018 attracted about 14,000 people over the course of its two-day program, with this year’s event achieving that same number in just one day.

Festival of Sport program co-ordinator Sue Cormack said while the gusty wind would have deterred some people from fronting to GMHBA, the event was a grand success.

“We’re really confident that with the success of our second, the Festival of Sport will continue to grow.

“The whole part of the event for the trust (Kardinia Park Stadium Trust) is that it opens the door really wide to the sporting precinct, and people were
climbing all over it.”

She said many young children enjoyed the virtual games, stand-up paddle boarding and the youth hangout in the carpark.

“It was a one-day event this year, so we really conflated the two-day numbers into one.”
