Ladies Day to raise funds for ovarian cancer

THE annual Barwon Heads Football Netball Clubs Ladies Day will return this year raising funds for ovarian cancer.

On May 4, the football club will host around 100 people for a day filed with champagne, a silent auction, cocktail cart, live music from Levi Anderson and more.

Event organiser Sheriden Webb said they’ve made a change this year and will instead raise money for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation.

“I feel like ovarian cancer isn’t widely talked about and there’s very little awareness and it actually does affect a lot of women with a really high death rate.

“I wanted to change it up because I feel like it’s not as commonly talked about and there’s so many women at the footy club that are in their early 20s to early 30s that should be aware of the signs and symptoms.”

Jordan Turner from the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation will speak at the event. She was diagnosed with the disease days before her 28th birthday.

Now in remission, she’ll share her story, her diagnosis and how she’s been supported by the foundation.

Around 40 local businesses have contributed to the cause, donating prizes for the raffles and silent auction including wines, candles, vouchers, pilates sessions, photo shoots and more.

“It’s important to know that we have had so many amazing, generous donations from lots of local businesses, especially in these trying times,” Ms Webb said.

Attendees are asked to wear a touch of white or teal in honour of the ovarian cancer ribbon.

The Ladies Day will be held in the club rooms at the Barwon Heads Football Netball Club from 2pm. Tickets are $40 and include champagne on arrival, canapes and a donation.
