A laser hair removal device triggered the evacuation of Avalon Airport and a bomb squad response on Thursday morning.
A laser hair removal device sparked the evacuation of Avalon Airport on Thursday morning and a visit from the bomb squad.
Emergency services were called to the airport shortly before 6am after the item, initially deemed suspicious, was discovered.
The terminal was evacuated while Victoria Police’s Bomb Response Unit conducted checks on the device.
Victoria Police later confirmed the suspicious item was a laser hair removal device.
“The Bomb Response Unit conducted checks on an item, and it was determined to be a laser hair removal device,” a spokesperson said.
It is understood a man was detained after the device was discovered but later released when officers determined it posed no threat.
Flights were disrupted for several hours as passengers waited outside the terminal.
The airport has since reopened.
