WITH only days left to post items before Christmas, Australia Post workers received a boost to morale when Federal Member for Corangamite, Libby Coker, made a surprise visit last week.

Ms Coker visited depots in Grovedale and Torquay to thank them for their hard work leading into the busy summer period.

“As we approach one of the busiest times of the year for Australia Post, we know employees are working up to six days a week, around the clock, to deliver Christmas parcels,” Ms Coker said.

“I believe the greatest asset we have is our people, and Australia post’s 60,000-strong workforce prove that every day.”

Last week Australia Post announced it will end daily letter deliveries in 2024.

Priority mail, parcels and express post will still be delivered daily, however, normal mail will be delivered every second business day.

“I commend Australia Post for its commitment to service excellence and adaptability as it continues its modernisation journey,” Ms Coker said.

“The Government is committed to ensuring that Australia Post remains a beloved and publicly owned

institution that can deliver the services Australians need.”

An Australia Post spokesperson said temporary weekend deliveries were rolled out due to an increased number of online sales in the lead-up to Christmas.

Weekend deliveries will remain in place up until Christmas, depending on volumes.

For packages being sent to most places within Australia, make sure they are wrapped and posted by 18 December.

People sending to Western Australia and the Northern Territory should allow a few extra days.

You can still express ship packages by December 21.

International Standard had to be posted before December 7 and International Express before December 13.

Last Christmas 52 million parcels were delivered by Australia Post.
