Leopold CFA marks the spot

LAND next to the existing Leopold CFA station on the Bellarine Highway has been purchased for the brigade in what will be a significant boost for volunteers and the community.
Emergency Services Minister and Bellarine MP Lisa Neville announced the land acquisition on May 21.
“I have been pleased to work with the local CFA and the Leopold brigade, led by captain Ashley Brown, in securing this much-needed land for the future,” she said.
“The brigade has a proud history in serving the local Leopold community and I commend and thank everyone of its members for
their work.”
Leopold CFA is a volunteer brigade consisting of 50 members, responding to 100 incidents last financial year and working as a vital part of education and community events.
The existing station is 35 years old and features 2.5 engine bays, a meeting room, kitchen, brigade office, workshop and carpark.
While the station provides a high level of service to the community, planning is now under way to reflect future needs and requirements of the brigade and the community.
The Victorian government contribution was delivered through the $60 million Fire Services Statement (FSS) package, announced in
late 2017.
The FSS package includes the $10 million Enhancing Volunteerism Grants Program, which supports vital equipment and facility upgrades, as well as local initiatives to strengthen volunteerism and brigade culture; and $50 million of funding towards further infrastructure upgrades for brigades.
Ms Neville said the land will provide the space needed for the brigade to improve services for the local Leopold area and surrounds in the future.
“The Bellarine Peninsula’s population and development continues to grow, and it’s important that we’re planning for fire services delivery in the future.
“We’re providing local volunteers with the resources and tools they need to continue their excellent work keeping the community safe.”
