Leopold dominates this year’s Let’s Kick Cancer Cup games
LEOPOLD’S senior football and netball teams brought home both Let’s Kick Cancer Cups at the weekend.
The Leopold senior team beat Grovedale easily by 87 points in cold and wet conditions on Saturday, while the Leopold netball A Grade side beat Grovedale by four goals.
During the second annual Let’s Kick Cancer game at Burdoo Reserve, all Grovedale football and netball teams wore teal socks or ribbons, and Leopold football and netball teams wore flouro pink socks or ribbons.
Tim Russell and his sister Tracey Quinlan, along with Sheridan Edsall and Brent Beer, were the driving forces behind the fundraising game, which featured an informal luncheon with guest speakers, a major raffle and the Let’s Kick Cancer Cup.
This year’s event raised more than $9,000 for the Andrew Love Cancer Centre, bringing the fundraiser’s total to more than $25,000 in two years. Wes Cusworth was MC for the day and interviewed Mr Russell about what he hoped to achieve, and other guests included Associate
Professor Philip Campbell – Clinical Haematologist at the Andrew Love Cancer Centre, who spoke
about the amazing steps they were taking in cancer research, and corangamite federal member Sarah Henderson, who spoke candidly about losing both her parents to cancer.
The formal part of the day ended with the Grovedale and Leopold senior teams running through a joint banner.
