ABOUT 100 pint-sized students will begin prep at Leopold Primary School this week, including one set of enthusiastic twins.

Five-year-old Poppy and Lily Marsh say they are looking forward to making new friends and art classes when they start school tomorrow (Friday).

Mum Andrea said her daughters were very excited about their transition to school, which was already familiar now big sister Eleanor was in grade one this year.

“It’s been good for both of them getting used to what school routines are like, so dropping an older sister off and picking her up, they got an idea of what’s involved, and they hear her talk about it a lot,” Andrea said.

“They know they’ve got time to play with friends and time to learn in class.”

The twins have Mrs Maddie Watson this year, who Lily said “smiles and has a happy face”.

Andrea said while she believed her daughters were easy to tell apart, a lot of people still got confused.

“But Poppy and Lily are very good at reminding people of who is who, so I’m sure their teacher will soon learn and work it out, they’ll keep her on her toes.”

Andrea said Poppy and Lily had a connection and looked out for each other.

She said one was very outgoing and gave anything a try, while the other was very cautious and watched the other do it before she had a go.

“Which is another reason having them in the same class is reassuring as a parent because I know watching the other one will give them a chance to settle and get the most out of school at the early stages,” she said.

“But the teacher has been very supportive and she will encourage independence, so they won’t rely on each other too much.”

Students in grades 1 to 6 started school yesterday.
