LEOPOLD TENNIS CLUB – 100 YEARS YOUNG!

October 25, 2018 BY

Frank, Clare and Anne-Maree.

On October 7, the Leopold Tennis Club celebrated its centenary with a big function at the clubrooms.

Present and former players arrived en masse to witness and be a part of a truly memorable day where old friendships and memories were rekindled, with that window box near the front door proudly displaying the hand-written minutes of the club’s first ever meeting on August 27th, 1918.

Club president (and coach) Ry Davies spoke about the club’s past and present with an optimistic view of its future, especially about those new clubrooms coming soon, with wise words also from life members Clare O’Hara and Wendy Hainsworth, expressing special thanks to Joan Colegrave for her dedicated input into that new clubrooms project.

Plenty of discourse from many, talking of Leopold’s “golden days” with photos and memorabilia everywhere. A fantastic atmosphere, great company and a lovely spread of food too.

What a day!

Club senior secretary Anne-Maree Hoare was pleased with the teams for summer this season, with six teams in junior competition, four in seniors and one midweek ladies team.

Leopold Tennis Club is ready to re-emerge as a force in local tennis and anyone who is interested in being a part of the club can phone Anne-Maree on 5250 2673 or check them out on Facebook.

Great going Leopold Tennis Club – now for the next hundred!
