EVERY Saturday night, Leopold Hall comes alive with music and dancing, but this weekend all proceeds from the January 25 evening will go towards those affected by bushfires.

President Kevin Smith said the committee and members wanted to do something to help those most affected and decided to host a fundraiser, with money going to the Bendigo Bank appeal.

“We’re going to be running raffles with prizes that have been donated by members and the community. They’ll be drawn on the night,” Mr Smith said.

“We normally get 100 people through the doors every Saturday so all door takings will be donated. We will be making a cash donation from the hall of $500 also.”

Mr Smith said he alongside fellow members have watched on as fires cause catastrophic damage across the country and wanted to do their part to help those who need it.

“The seriousness of it all and how many people are being impacted, we thought it was only fitting that we did something. We (Leopold) classify as a rural area ourselves so we thought ‘let’s try and help them by raising some funds’.

“We’ve decorated the hall in an Australian theme. There’s flags and gum tree leaves everywhere. We will be running the same set up as normal on Saturdays with a five-piece band.

“Entry is $10 and that includes supper which will be special and include slices. We welcome everyone, it’s a wonderful evening for a good cause.”

He said the dance will start at 8pm with supper at 10pm and the evening will conclude at 11.30pm.

“We always like to announce at the end of the evening how much we have managed to raise, so we will be doing that. We try and round up the figure if we are a few dollars short of the nearest hundred.”
