Lions Club supports seniors with monthly lunch

June 2, 2021 BY

The program is accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing free face-to-face and/or telephone support at a time and place that is best for each individual.

THE Ocean Grove Barwon Heads Lions Club has held another one of its successful monthly lunches for the seniors community of the area.

The service organisation has been providing a lunch – presently being held at the Senior Citizens Club in Clifford Street, Barwon Heads – on the third Monday of every month for the past 16 years.

About 50 people usually attend each month.

Ocean Grove Barwon Heads Lions Club member Sue Harling said past president Kelvin Parry started the lunches in 2005 when he saw the need to provide some social activity for many local seniors.

“Of course the legendary John Brady (a life member of the club) joined in and offered support and expertise to enhance the event for many years.”

The meal costs $6 per head if people book early or $8 per head if they arrive on the day, and is open to anyone.

“The Lions Club offers the December lunch free of charge as a Christmas gift to the community,” Ms Harling said.

“For some people, it is one of the few activities that they enjoy outside their homes.”
