Torquay Lions Club president Tricia Blane delivers a cheque for $10,000 to Foundation 61 program manager Cameron Sawyer.

THE Torquay Lions have continued their support of Foundation 61, recently contributing $10,000 to the Mt Duneed rehabilitation centre.

About 30 Torquay Lions Club members attended a pizza night at Foundation 61 where club president Tricia Blane presented the cheque to the centre’s program manager Cameron Sawyer.

This is the third year the Torquay Lions Club has handed over $10,000 to provide accommodation and program support for two clients at Foundation 61, while they rebuild their broken lives.

There are presently 15 participants in Foundation 61’s program, and Ms Blane said the Lions had committed to support the centre for at least another two years.

“Torquay Lions have built a wonderful relationship with the team at Foundation 61.

“We greatly appreciate their work and we are proud to be able to help in some way.

“In two years’ time, we will review our commitment to Foundation 61 and consider any further support then.”

Mr Sawyer said he welcomed support from the community for Foundation 61 and praised the Torquay Lions Club for its contribution over the past three years.

“Because of the Torquay Lions continuing support we are able to provide services to 15 participants and provide accommodation for two of them in rooms funded by the Lions.

“As well as this annual donation, we have been able to provide a large outdoor pizza oven for our participants with funds raised from the community at the Lions’ annual bowls day.

“At the Lions recent visit for dinner, we produced all the pizzas needed from the oven.

“We are very grateful for the support the club gives to us.”
