September 15, 2023 BY

OCEAN GROVE’S Rolling Pin Pies and Cakes has rolled the competition at the 34th Official Great Aussie Pie event, bringing home three major titles, 17 gold medals, one silver and a bronze.

Rolling Pin competed against hundreds of other businesses from across Australia and won the Best Potato Top/Shepards Pie, Best Red Meat Pie and the illustrious major title of Overall Best Gourmet Pie.

The team’s lamb, minted pea and potato recipe was the magic recipe for the Best Potato Top/Shepards Pie, while the chunky beef, bacon and cheese recipe guided them home for Best Red Meat Pie and Overall Best Gourmet Pie.

Judges tasted 1500 pies across three days at trade event, Fine Food Australia, in Sydney.

The Rolling Pin team were thrilled to secure their best result in businesses’ 30 years of entering the awards.

“I’m just absolutely ecstatic and over the moon,” Rolling Pin Pies and Cakes manager Nathan Williams said.

“This competition has been running for a very long time, and we’ve had a lot of great success.

“We’ve been lucky enough to win most categories you can win in these awards. We’ve won seafood, poultry, red meat, overall plain pie and many more over the years.

“We just love this competition and have been super successful over the journey.

“It’s absolutely the best result we’ve had which is just amazing. Considering how much we’ve changed in the last thirty odd years.

“The feeling of winning just never gets old, we are really honoured.”

Rolling Pin Pies and Cakes was recently inducted into the Official Great Aussie Pie competition in September 2022.

They are one of only four bakeries in Australia to receive the honour.

Rolling Pin Pies and Cakes have stores in Ocean Grove, Leopold, Queenscliff and most recently South Geelong.

Taste the winning pies at any of the four Rolling Pin’s locations.
