Local kids learn about the sea this summer

January 12, 2018 BY

CHILDREN learnt about their coastal and marine environment at Indented Head last week during a series of Summer by the Sea activities.

The children took part in a Rockpool Ramble and Beachcomb on the beach front, where they looked for curious creatures, and investigated the diversity in the intertidal zone, and what the sea had washed up.

Mermaid Adventures also highlighted the impacts of plastics on marine life from a real life mermaid.

Mermaid Jacinta has seen the impacts of plastics in the real ocean world and was enthusiastic about sharing her message with the kids about the importance of ocean health.

She had some great stories about big problems which have small solutions.

Each year during the January school holidays, Coastcare Victoria coordinates the delivery of hundreds of Summer by the Sea activities across the Bellarine, which are on offer until January 28.
