Local MP to enter Wreck2Reef
BELLARINE MP Alison Marchant will join hundreds of swimmers at next month’s Wreck2Reef swim in Indented Head as part of a bumper weekend on the Bellarine’s northern coastline.
Ms Marchant, who was in attendance at last year’s swimming event as a special guest, will swap her political suit for a wetsuit by taking part in the “Salty Bitches” 600m open water swim on February 10.
“Last year it was a privilege to pull the starting gun and watch swimmers compete, but I had made a promise to this year jump in the water myself,” Ms Marchant said.
“I’m excited to give myself a challenge and join in the camaraderie of the open water swim, as well as cheering on everyone giving it go.”
“The beautiful Indented Head beach is the backdrop to the Wreck2Reef event and encourages locals and visitors to the area.
“Another opportunity for families to get active outdoors and whilst showing off the beautiful landscape of the Bellarine.”
Following her swim, Ms Marchant will throw her support behind swimmers participating in the 800m, 1.2km, and 2.5km open water swims, including the 300m junior dash.
The annual Wreck2Reef swim has been a staple event in Indented Head and has been hosted by the Indented Head Yacht Club since 2010.
Last year’s event held record numbers with over 350 swimmers entering Wreck2Reef events with participants coming from as far as the Northern Territory, New South Wales and across Victoria.
